Project Create has just announced that it will host its annual Spring Student Art Showcase on Saturday, May 14th from 2:00 - 5:00PM. The arts education nonprofit organization, which is approaching its 30th anniversary in 2024, will highlight performances and artwork created by students in 2022. On display will be paintings, sculptures, mosaics, improv performances, African dance and drumming, choral music, DJ sets, studio music productions, and photography. Project Create has enlisted the expertise of acclaimed international curator Nicola Charles, founder of 11:Eleven Gallery, to elevate the experience for attendees. Project Create Executive Director, Christie Walser, is excited to highlight student work.

“We offer free art classes at our arts center to over 250 students each semester,” said Walser. “The real story exists within each student’s unique personal journey. That’s what will truly be on display at our Spring Showcase. Positive self-development through artistic activities is why Project Create exists, and we’re happy to be able to provide impactful creative experiences for all who walk through our doors.”

Project Create provides programming throughout the year, both at its art center in Historic Anacostia as well as at various community partner locations throughout the city. Classes introduce and curate artistic experiences in various disciplines including performing, visual, digital and literary arts. Classes are specially designed for children, youth and their families. There are 247 students enrolled in 19 classes being offered during Project Create’s Spring 2022 semester. Artwork on display has been selected by teachers and curated by Nicola Charles.

“I’m happy to be working with Project Create to give a proper showcasing of their students’ work,” said Charles. “My gallery, 11:Eleven, is based on the angel number representing positivity, opportunity and manifestation of one's goals, dreams and aspirations. This is in perfect harmony with the work that Project Create’s dynamic team does so well every day. I’m looking forward to creating a full experience not only for attendees, but also the student artists and their families.”

The Spring 2022 Showcase will take place from 2pm-5pm on Saturday, May 14th at the Project Create Art Center located at 2208 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE, Washington, D.C. 20020. For more information, please contact Project Create at studio@projectcreatedc.org or 202-656-7590.
